Challenging Injustice

The role of the citizen in society is a fundamental concept that is discussed throughout the CA HSS Framework. With a strong grounding in the importance of treating all people with respect, empathy, and understanding, today’s students will be better able to cooperate with people with differing views and backgrounds in a positive manner. These videos, produced in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves, are designed to provide teachers in the elementary and middle school grades with a foundation in strategies to create an inclusive classroom environment where students can learn the importance of challenging injustice wherever they encounter it. A precursor to the more in-depth study of genocide and injustice against groups of people in high school, these videos will help educators lay the foundation that all students need to be informed and active proponents of peace and understanding.

Challenging injustice begins with a learning experience that provides students with mirrors and windows where they see themselves in the curriculum as well as have a glimpse into others' lives.
